A date night at home is an underrated concept. Not only is staying in to enjoy each other’s company generally more economical (no taxi fees or extortionate restaurant bills!), it’s much easier to relax in the comfort of your home as well! Planning the perfect date night at home is more simple than you may think, too. What’s not to love? Below we’re sharing three easy steps to follow to create a romantic date night at home this Valentine’s Day.

Set the Mood

A simple first step to creating a great date night at home this Valentine’s Day is setting the mood and creating a romantic atmosphere. Romance is subjective, so focus on little things that your love enjoys and stick with that. Perhaps your significant other has a particular interest or hobby – if so, you could use that as a base idea for creating a romantic vibe. Of course, you can always go down the classic route with roses and chocolates. Decorate the sideboard or side table with fresh flowers for a good old-fashioned romantic touch (most people have a favourite flower so you could sneakily find out which one your partner prefers in advance). A box of chocolates ready on the coffee table is almost certainly going to be well received too!

Plan a Menu

Whether you have chef-level kitchen skills or your abilities are limited to pressing ‘Start’ on the microwave, one of the key elements to a great date night in is delicious food. Cook something you both enjoy or make your partner’s favourite food, if it’s within your capabilities and don’t forget to cook with love! Of course, if you don’t enjoy cooking order your favourite meal to be delivered to your door. Enjoy your dinner at the dining table rather than on your laps and enjoy some real quality time together. Alternatively (or as well as!) you could serve your partner a romantic breakfast in bed – who wouldn’t appreciate scoffing a croissant while still comfortably cosy?

Choose Some Activities

Think about something you both enjoy and use that idea as the basis for creating your at-home date. Both music lovers? Make a playlist of your partner’s favourite songs for a simple romantic gesture (include some slow-dance-worthy tunes to really get into the Valentine’s spirit). Perhaps you first bonded over board games? Play an old classic like Monopoly or try your hands at something you’ve never played before. Maybe you both fancy a pamper? Plan an intimate spa night together! If you’re really stuck for ideas, a night snuggling up on the sofa watching a film or bingeing a boxset is a fail-safe at home date-night activity.
