With the mercury dropping and the leaves turning, Autumn is officially here. So it’s time to switch things up and swap that summer aesthetic for something a little cosier.  In case you’re in need of some inspiration, here we’ve pulled together 4 simple ways you can add an Autumnal touch to your home this season.

Choose Earthy Tones

Opting for neutral, earthy tones for your living space, dining area or bedroom is going to create cosy, sanctuary-like vibes instantly. If you want to achieve this add Autumnal appeal to your existing furniture with fluffy or woven throws, blankets and cushions in deep or earthy shades like chocolate brown and burnt orange. Alternatively, get the look with a new sofa, choose a velvet sofa, fabric sofa or leather sofa in brown or grey or choose a dark blue velvet sofa to add a little colour without overwhelming the space.

Use Natural Materials

Bring a touch of nature indoors and add seasonal charm with wood furnishings and accessories. Oak furniture such as oak dining tables and sideboards is perfect for that cosy look in cooler weather, but if you’re looking for something on a smaller scale, natural wood accessories and table displays can make a huge difference. Adorn your home with wood trinket bowls or trays with a natural finish and don’t forget to consider adding plants or flowers too. Fresh sunflowers are an obvious nod to Autumn and why not make your own dried wild flower arrangement? Natural woven baskets add a great touch too!

Crack out the Candles

Nothing says Autumn like a gorgeous candle crackling away as you snuggle up. If you like something fragranced, you can really amp up the Autumnal ambience with a scented candle. These days you can find candles in a wide variety of scents but something with stone fruits, spices or ‘bakery’ notes will have your home feeling suitably seasonal. Soy wax candles are the best choice for burning inside, so opt for one of those if you can. If you want a fun and inexpensive way to scent your home, think about making a Simmer Pot, which using ingredients such as sliced citrus fruits, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Consider a Rug

Whether you have flooring, tiles or carpets, a rug is going to add an extra layer of warmth and help to create a cosy atmosphere perfect for Autumn. Any kind of rug will do but be sure to consider the size of the area you want to place it in before making a purchase and check that it’s easy to clean! As with the other décor mentioned, choose a rug in a warm colour for extra Autumnal appeal.
