Buying your first home is a unique journey, and Lauren McDiarmid decided to share hers publicly with the launch of A Home with Lauren in 2024. Merging her interests in interior design, hosting, and mindful living, Lauren shares the unfiltered experience – the design choices, the hosting plans, and the emotional adjustment to a new space.

Here, Lauren offers a glimpse into what inspires her, her favourite interior trends, and the furniture that already has her house feeling like a home.

What first sparked your interest in home renovation and interiors?

My interest in home renovation and interiors really began when I started designing my own home. I realised how amazing it is to shape a space that feels like a true reflection of who I am. From choosing colours, textures and decor pieces to reimagining how each room is used, I love the process of creating a home that feels not just beautiful, but really personal.

What drew you to Oak&More?

I was drawn to Oak&More because of the beautiful warmth their pieces would bring to my home. There’s something about the natural tones and textures of oak that I think instantly makes a home feel more inviting and cosy. The quality really stood out to me too—everything feels solid, well-made, and built to last. Each piece has added not only style but also a sense of comfort to my home, which is exactly what I look for when creating a space that feels truly mine.

Tell us what you like about the Sheringham Table and Tilt Sideboard?

The Sheringham Table and Tilt Sideboard have fit so well into our dining room—they feel like they were meant to be there and are the true staple in the room. The sideboard has loads of space for all our serving dishes and hosting pieces, which has been so handy. And the table has been amazing too! It’s given us a dining space that feels luxurious, warm, and is ideal for hosting. We’ve had so many compliments on both pieces, which is always lovely—they really do make the room feel like a home.

What has been your favourite project to date?

It’s hard to choose, but I think my favourite project to date has been working on our dining space. It’s such a central part of our home, and creating a place where we can gather, host, and make memories has been really special. I loved bringing together pieces that feel both functional and beautiful, and seeing it all come to life has been so rewarding. It’s the kind of space that just feels good to be in—and that’s always the goal for me.

Where do you find inspiration?

I’ve always been quite sure of my style, so when it came to designing our home, I had a clear vision from the start. I knew the kind of atmosphere I wanted to create and the look that felt most like us. Of course, I still enjoy browsing for ideas now and then, but for the most part, it’s been about staying true to that original vision and making choices that really reflect our style and how we like to live.

What colours, textures, or materials are you drawn to at the moment?

At the moment, I’m really drawn to bright, fresh neutral tones paired with wooden features to bring in some warmth. I love how the simplicity of neutrals creates a calm, airy feel, while the oak adds a beautiful, natural touch that makes the space feel more grounded. I also enjoy incorporating bright pops of colour throughout the room to draw attention to different areas—it adds energy and life to the space. Solid oak and neutrals are definitely my go-to right now; they create such a timeless, inviting vibe.

Are there any current design trends you're excited about?

I’m really into the trend of making homes feel more like luxurious hotels—spaces that are both calming and indulgent. It’s about creating an atmosphere with plush textures, high-quality materials, and a serene colour palette. But what really makes it special is adding those personal touches that make a space feel like yours. Whether it’s a favourite artwork, a unique piece of furniture, or family heirlooms, I love how this trend lets you create a refined, yet personal environment that’s both stylish and comfortable.
