Christmas. It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be the most stressful – especially when it’s your turn to host! In between dealing with extended family, keeping the children entertained, and trying to stay on top of the dishes, there’s also a turkey to roast and last-minute presents to wrap. Festive season hosting can feel nothing short of chaotic, but we’ve put together some Christmas hosting tips, so you can put your feet up and relax with a mince pie or two in no time. Plus, with the right pieces of oak furniture, from sturdy dining tables to comfortable chairs, you can host effortlessly and in style!

Make a List and Check it Twice A checklist is always a good idea, and when it comes to hosting Christmas Dinner, you might just find it invaluable.

Make a list to keep track of everything you want to have in order before your guests arrive and during the festivities too – and tick it off as you go. If you don’t know where to start, there are plenty of Christmas checklists and planner templates available online to help you get organised, otherwise, something as complex as a spreadsheet or as simple as a notepad will suffice.

Make Sure Your House is Prepared

Before you even think about planning your menu, ensure you have everything you need in your home, from a spacious oak dining table that comfortably seats everyone, to oak dining chairs that blend style and comfort. Also, consider adding a nest of tables for extra surface space, perfect for festive drinks and snacks. Count out your cutlery and check you have enough crockery, plates and bowls to suit the size of your festive gathering. If you don’t want to deal with dishes, there’s no shame in opting for plates and cutlery you can recycle along with the wrapping paper.

Cook in Advance A great tip for festive season hosting is to cook what you can in advance.

Roast the meat the night before, and chop and prepare your vegetables in advance and you’ll have much more time on your hands to relax and enjoy yourself. Basically, anything that can be cooked ahead of time, should be! It’s also worth considering serving as much chilled food and desserts as possible, to really minimise how much cooking you’ll need to do on the day.

Create Space in the Fridge If you’re going to be serving up a lot of food, it makes sense to create space in your fridge first.

Our refrigerators get a lot of use over the festive period, so clearing it out in advance will take the worry out of where you’re going to store your fresh ingredients and give you somewhere to put the leftovers! Create space by discarding any old sauce bottles at the back, tossing out those long-expired jars of jam and decluttering the vegetable crisper, ready for your festive-feast essentials.

Consider BYO Sharing the responsibility of the meal can be a huge relief, so encourage your guests to bring a dish to contribute.

A problem shared is a problem halved, so if you consider doing all the cooking to be a problem, why not adopt a BYO policy this festive season? Someone’s specialty pudding or signature appetisers can make a great addition to your festive dining table and reduce your workload.

Remember to Relax!

This season is all about getting together with loved ones, sharing a few laughs, and having a great time in general, and by adding some beautiful oak furniture, you can create a relaxing, inviting space that helps everybody unwind and enjoy the festivities.

With these tips, hosting can become less of a task and more of a joy. By organising ahead of time and preparing your home, you can create a welcoming, festive environment that leaves your guests feeling cherished and yourself feeling relaxed.
